IFCN – Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the IFCN Executive Committee (ExCo), I want to thank the Member Societies that cast votes in the December 10 General Assembly. This process finalizes the move of the IFCN from Canada to the United States. On this occasion I want to thank the whole ExCo, in particular our Past President Mark Hallett for having worked heavily on the revision of our bylaws and statutes, and our Treasurer Aatif Husain for taking care of a lot of organizational details, some of them still to be finalized. Also our new Secretariat at AIM in particular, Clarissa Russell, assured a smooth transition despite numerous partially unexpected bureaucratic obstacles. Thanks to everybody.

Humanity is thankful that a COVID vaccine is becoming available, and the CN community will come together again. The ExCo asks you to mark your calendar for 4-8 September 2022 for the next International Congress of Clinical Neurophysiology (ICCN) in Geneva, Switzerland. The ICCN 2022 program will include several signature courses, as well as symposiums and workshops planned by IFCN member societies and other prominent societies in clinical neurophysiology from Europe and around the world. The ICCN 2022 website will be launching soon, and a call for scientific proposals will be announced.

The December Editor’s Choice, “Association of Cortical Spreading Depression (CSD) and Seizures in Patients with Medically Intractable Epilepsy,” Clinical Neurophysiology 131:2861-2874 provides an interesting case for why clinical recordings of scalp CSD may serve as a novel monitoring tool in epilepsy.

As we prepare to say, “Good-bye to 2020”, I acknowledge the resiliency of all who eased the burdens of others during this trying year. Though we could not meet in-person, many well-planned congresses pivoted to virtual events, which expanded the scope and the reach of educational content. Initially scheduled for 2020, the 7th AOCCN – Asian Oceanian Congress on Clinical Neurophysiology will occur virtually over January 30 until February 1, 2021.

Please join us on January 23, 2020, for the next Masterclass by IFCN series. The series will provide new content each month from top clinical neurophysiologists worldwide, and each will include time for discussion with the lecturer following the presentation.

As in 2020, the IFCN will continue to expand the offerings available to the CN community both for the IFCN society members as well as to their individual members.

I wish you good health and good cheer.

Sincerely,

Professor Walter Paulus
IFCN President
